Our Journey to Community Impact

In keeping with the new direction of the United Way of America and United Ways across the country, San Juan United Way (SJUW) is working with local leaders to create a Community Impact Agenda. The community impact process will enhance the current programs funding by SJUW by focusing on root causes of problems while continuing to provide supportive funding for short term solutions. SJUW will maintain supportive resources to current partner agencies to assure service delivery throughout this process.

Our goal is to build a stronger San Juan County by energizing and inspiring people to make a difference. We will be working toward activating the community and building partnerships around a common goal to develop solutions that benefit the entire community. We will increase community involvement at all levels for these goals by expanding and diversifying our own fundraising efforts and supporting the concept of community partnerships. SJUW will measure, communicate and learn from the impact of our efforts. This process will reflect the diversity of the unique communities we serve.

Throughout this process, we will be seeking and welcoming input from concerned citizens throughout the community to assist in identifying priority issues. This will enable us to name and frame the impact we need to have and develop and carry out plans that will achieve the mission. SJUW has formed a Community Leadership Committee comprised of service providers, business partners and representatives from local schools and government to provide assistance in setting a strategic direction for achieving Community Impact.

There will be several outcomes as a result of making focused strategic decisions. One of the expected outcomes will be that this process may provide opportunities for the formation of new partnerships within the community.
