Prescription Drug Discount Card

San Juan United Way Partners with FamilyWize to Help Families Struggling with Prescription Costs

In April of this year, San Juan United Way announced that it had joined more than 300 United Ways across the country to distribute free FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards to help people with no prescription coverage lower the cost of their medicine. These cards are accepted by most of the pharmacies throughout San Juan County.

To date participating UW agencies have generated $577,401 in savings in August for the people in need in your communities on the cost of their medicine. 28,796 prescriptions were filled and the average savings were 39% or $20.15 per prescription. Combined savings increased 234% for the 60 day period ending Aug. 31 over the prior 60 day period.

In San Juan County, SJUW has generated $1,517 in member savings to date. 100 prescriptions have been filled with an average savings of $43.97% or $15.17 in the first 5 months of participation in the program

The cards are being distributed free of charge, courtesy of San Juan United Way and some of its partner agencies (Desert View Counseling, New Beginnings, American Red Cross and Boys and Girls Club of Farmington) as part of a $50 million national, in-kind donation of discount prescription cards coordinated by Membership Services Corporation, located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and its industry partners.  Printing for one million prescription cards was donated by another Pennsylvania company, Independent Graphics of Pittston, Pennsylvania.

The goal of the FamilyWize community service partnership is to deliver $50-100 million in prescription drug savings to people with no prescription drug coverage. These cards can reduce prescription drug costs by an average of 20 percent or more.  Working with reputable and established charities like local United Way agencies is the best way to reach the people who really need to save money on prescription drugs."
